SlowRoads features a powerful custom-built route planner designed specifically for scenic travel. Instead of just navigating from point A to B via the fastest highway, our tool helps you integrate scenic roads into your itinerary. Enter your home address or current location, and the planner will calculate the best connection to the start or end of any route.
Along with routing directions, the map retrieves detailed elevation profiles so you can inspect steep climbs beforehand. You'll also get instant access to 3-day weather forecasts for both ends of the route, and can consult our AI Copilot for campsites, scenic viewpoints, and local travel advice.
One of Europe's most dramatic river landscapes. The route snakes along the Mosel river, flanked by incredibly steep terraced vineyards (the steepest in Europe!). You'll pass Roman ruins in Trier, medieval Bernkastel-Kues, and the fairytale Eltz Castle tucked in a side valley. While the vineyards are steep, the riverside road is flat and easy for small engines. It is perfect for slow cruising, watching barges go by, and stopping for world-class Riesling.
One of the most famous mountain pass roads in the world. 11 hairpin turns carved into steep mountainsides, passing the massive Stigfossen waterfall. Reaches an elevation of 858m. WARNING: Extremely steep and narrow. In a vintage van, this is the ultimate test of your cooling system and brakes. The road is often closed until June and shuts down early October. It's a high-adrenaline, slow-motion vertical dance with towering peaks and deep valleys.
Austria's highest mountain pass road. A masterpiece of engineering that brings you face-to-face with the Pasterze glacier and the Grossglockner, the country's highest peak. WARNING: 36 hairpins and an ascent to 2,504 meters. The climb is non-stop and very steep. This is the ultimate test for your van's temperature gauge and brakes on the way down. Use engine braking!

"Slow traveling is not just about the destination, it is about the poetry of the pavement."
Search for the most beautiful roads in Europe and you will often find lists of highways. On SlowRoads, we focus on the alternatives. We analyze terrain data, historical importance, and scenic points of interest to curate routes that are truly world-class for travelers in campervans or vintage vehicles.
Whether it is the 11 hairpin turns of the Trollstigen in Norway or the rolling vineyard terraces of the Douro Valley in Portugal, each route offers a unique emotional response to the landscape. We prioritize the "secondary network"—roads where the speed limit is a suggestion and the view is the command.
SlowRoads is the central hub for travelers who believe the pavement itself is the destination. We collect, analyze, and detail the most scenic highways, mountain passes, and historic paths across Europe.
We carefully screen routes based on their landscape quality, historic value, and road-surface suitability. A true scenic road bypasses the speed-focused motorways in favor of winding secondary networks. This approach lets you explore medieval villages, stop at vineyard cooperatives, and camp with stunning vistas, preserving the art of slow travel.
Our collection spans diverse topographies. Discover gentle drives like the Mosel Wine Road (Moselweinstraße) in Germany, which traces flat riverbeds lined with steep vineyard terraces and castle ruins. Or, push your vehicle to its limits on alpine giants like the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria or the Col de la Bonette on the Route des Grandes Alpes in France, where hairpin bends lead to breathtaking mountain views.
For drivers of campervans, motorhomes, or scenic road-trip enthusiasts, detailed terrain data is crucial. SlowRoads provides precise elevation profiles and highlights steep sections exceeding 7% grade. Our AI Copilot can offer customized advice on points of interest, photography spots, and camper-friendly parking along each route.
